I am a psychologist with a deep enthusiasm for getting to know people through the inevitable challenges we face in our lives. I enjoy helping them connect with their inner strengths and realise their true potential. I love the feeling of being with people when they feel truly seen and more deeply understood.
In my experience, it can be daunting reaching out and sharing what is really going on for us. Finding someone we are comfortable to do this with however is probably one of the most powerful things we can do for ourselves. Why? Because when we feel safe enough to be honest with ourselves and courageous enough to share this with someone skilled with helping, this is the beginning of a more potent relationship with ourselves. Contrastingly, there is nothing worse then deeply suffering alone.
Here’s a little more about my approach and background to help you get a better feel for me.

Firstly, there is nothing we have to talk about and nothing we can’t talk about. In my experience, knowing this allows more of a sense of safety and support. I enjoy creating this space for people.
In this space, I listen deeply to better understand your particular experience with the challenges you are facing, and what has led you to reaching out. Why? Because every problem can be understood more deeply, and this will lead to dealing with it more effectively.
We can then work in different ways depending on your nature, what you’re comfortable with, and the nature of your problems. Different ways include: Cognitively – bringing awareness and insight to your situation and underlying beliefs; Creatively – different modes of expression enable different perspectives and ideas; and Experientially – our momentary sensory experience is constantly changing and evolving whether we like it or not. Taking advantage of this principle can open and create powerful opportunities and inspiration for our growth and development.

I discovered psychotherapy in the late 1980’s, fresh into a career in Chinese Medicine, and immediately felt like I had found my niche in how I wanted to work with people. Thus began the lengthy process of changing my career. Along the way I realised gaining a degree in psychology would help in my qualifications and practice as a psychotherapist. I completed my training in both in the early 2000’s.
I began private practice and also worked as a counsellor in a hospice service supporting people to die in the comfort and familiarity of their own homes with loved ones. This work instilled in me the importance of true relationships with others, and true relationships with ourselves.
At this time I was also starting a young family and a fortuitous opportunity arose for me to move my practice nearby to Bardon Counselling Centre, Brisbane’s oldest counselling and therapy centre. I soon became busy in this established and thriving centre and enjoyed a secure fellowship with other skilled and caring therapists.
20 years on, after navigating an amicable separation with my long-term partner, and with children mostly grown up, I moved to Guyra, NSW Northern Tablelands, a town I had long been fond of with its elevation and temperate climate.
Here, I maintain a telehealth practice, enabling me to service a non-local client base including national and international clients, and have recently joined a centre in Guyra to work with people more locally.
